Rachel Roy Cancels New York Appearance After Beyoncé Fans Attack Her Over ‘Becky’ Lyric
Has the BeyHive forced Rachel Roy to go into hiding? The fashion designer canceled her appearance at a New York City event at the last minute after defending herself against Beyoncé fans who believe she was Jay Z’s side chick.
According to BuzzFeed, Roy, 42, was scheduled to speak Monday at Mastering Your Métier, organized by NeueHouse, but she backed out. The outlet reported that attendees received an email alerting them that Roy would not appear after all. “Due to a personal emergency, Rachel Roy has had to cancel this evening’s event,” the email read. “Our apologies for any inconvenience.”
Roy’s canceled gig comes just one day after she addressed reports that she was involved in Jay Z and Beyoncé’s supposed marriage problems. As previously reported, Beyoncé hinted in her “Lemonade” HBO special, and accompanying album, that Jay Z cheated with a woman she referred to as “Becky with the good hair.”
Fans accused Roy of being “Becky” after the designer posted an Instagram photo over the weekend with the caption, “good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. Live in the light #nodramaqueens.”
After fans flooded the post with insults and lemon emojis Sunday, Roy deleted the picture, made her Instagram account private, and tweeted that she didn’t appreciate the bullying. “I respect love, marriages, families and strength,” she wrote. “What shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone, no matter what, is bullying, of any kind.” Roy’s Instagram is no longer private as of Monday.
Her daughter Ava Dash, 16, also commented on the backlash, writing, “I’m tired of all the unnecessary bullying, come from a place of happiness.”
On Monday, celebrity stylist June Ambrose, who has worked with both Beyoncé and husband Jay Z, dismissed claims that Roy once had a fling with the “Run This Town” rapper. “ No truth at all to Jay Z and Rachel rumor, ridiculous!” she tweeted, also suggesting that Beyoncé singing about marriage troubles might not even be a reference to her own relationship.
