Reese Witherspoon Celebrates ‘Election’ 20th Anniversary, Reveals What She Learned From Character
Reese Witherspoon quietly celebrated the 20th anniversary of her comedy-drama film “Election” on social media. She also revealed what she learned from playing her character Tracy Flick in the movie.
On Tuesday, the Hollywood actress took to Instagram to share a throwback clip and screenshot from the movie that was released on April 23, 1999. In the caption, Witherspoon disclosed that the film “holds a special place in my heart.”
The mom of three then revealed that she learned to be a go-getter from her character and to “always carry cupcakes.” For those who have seen the movie, however, they are aware that these may just be Tracy’s positive traits since she used unethical tactics to get what she wanted.
Though “Election” did not have a box office success upon release, it still managed to capture the attention of many people. It was met with critical acclaim and has become a fan-favorite comedy, according to People.
Witherspoon’s mini-celebration happened the same day her interview with Glamour was published. In her dialogue with the women’s magazine, Ryan Phillippe’s ex-wife tackled the issue of anti-aging and admitted that she actually likes to see her self age in her projects.
“I love watching myself age on film. I think it’s so empowering to come in from a different place of knowledge, understanding and with that comes wrinkles … It also comes with understanding who you are and finding the best version of who you are,” she said.
In a separate interview for the newest issue of Allure, the “Big Little Lies” star also talked about aging. She admitted that she’s now very different from her 25-year-old self since she has gone through “a whole bunch of experiences.” She also noted that she likes her gray hair and fine lines.
Meanwhile, the 43-year-old actress rocked a soft pink coat and tan suede heels when she stepped out with her family for Easter Sunday service. Witherspoon was photographed flashing a big smile after getting out of an SUV. Trailing behind her were her sons: six-year-old Tennessee, who wore a pastel blue suit, and 15-year-old Deacon, who sported a smart navy polo and beige slacks.
