Reese Witherspoon Has No Regrets Over Marrying Ryan Phillippe At 23
Reese Witherspoon does not regret marrying her ex, Ryan Phillippe, at a young age.
Witherspoon and Phillippe tied the knot when she was only 23. Their marriage did not work out, but looking back, the actress has no regrets over her choice. In fact, she said in a recent interview that she "would never change anything" about it, but she doesn't want her daughter to do the same.
"I got married when I was 23 and I had two kids by the time I was 27," the "Big Little Lies" actress said on ITV's "Lorraine" show (as quoted by Us Weekly). "I don't know, sometimes it's good to know yourself [first]. I've said to my daughter, I think you know, at 25, you start to know yourself a little bit better."
Witherspoon and Phillippe, who worked together in the movie "Cruel Intentions," tied the knot in 1999 after two years of dating. The "Sweet Home Alabama" actress filed for divorce in late 2006. The exes share two children: Ava, 18, and Deacon 13. Witherspoon then went on to marry Hollywood agent Jim Toth, with whom she shares Tennessee, 5.
According to Witherspoon, her close resemblance to daughter Ava sometimes confuses her youngest son. "The kids all have funny and unique relationships with each other. Ava is like another parent to Tennessee, like his other mother," Witherspoon said in an interview with Southern Living. "I think sometimes he even gets confused -- he told Ava 'Happy Mother's Day!'"
Witherspoon added that aside from confusing Ava with their mother, Tennessee is like a protégé of his older brother, Deacon, because he follows the latter around the house all day.
A number of her fans have also noticed Witherspoon and Ava's close resemblance. On the Fourth of July, the "Walk the Line" actress shared a selfie with her daughter on Instagram, and several followers commented that the pair looked like twins.
"Amazing how beautiful and identical your daughter is to you! @reesewitherspoon shows no signs of aging," one user commented. "Legit twins @tiannanichole," another user wrote.
