Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern Want A ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Big Little Lies’ Crossover
What would happen if HBO’s breakout hit “Big Little Lies,” which was just picked up for a second season, and Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” series had a crossover?
It’s a bit insane to think because of how different the two entertainment properties are, but stars of the HBO series, Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern, want it to happen.
The ides came about because Dern not only stars on the HBO series as Renata, but has also joined the “Star Wars” franchise as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo in “The Last Jedi,” which is out in theaters on Friday.
The actress hit up “Good Morning America” on Thursday to do some press for the new movie and was joined by BB-8, one of the robots in the film, when Witherspoon reached out on Twitter to say how much she loves the robot and asked if he could be in “Big Little Lies” Season 2.
What? BB-8 in Monterey, California with Madeline (Witherspoon), Renata, Celeste (Nicole Kidman) and Jane (Shailene Woodley)? How did he get there and what is he doing? There are so many things to figure out to make this special crossover work, but, luckily, Dern has an idea.
“Um…yes,” Dern tweeted in response to Witherspoon’s proposal. “Easy. Renata just bought the real BB-8 for Christmas for her daughter. Knowing [you] would likely get your daughter the toy!”
Renata having to one-up Madeline with her Christmas gift to her daughter sounds exactly like something she’d do and as exciting as this all sounds, things could get pretty murky pretty fast since Dern stars in both franchises. Would Renata meet Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo? Would any other “Star Wars” characters find their way to California?
While the actresses are surely just joking and having some fun, with how well the first season of the HBO series did, no one should put it past them to actually figure out a way to make a crossover work.
For now, fans will just have to settle for the great news that a “Big Little Lies” Season 2 is on its way and that “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is in theaters Friday.
