Capcom's popular survival horror franchise is getting an animated series courtesy of Netflix. "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness" is expected to come out sometime this year, and it will feature Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as the show's protagonists.

"Even in darkness, a familiar voice can make all the difference," Netflix's geek account shared in a recent tweet. It also debuted a new poster with the two leads in the background. Underneath their images are zombies walking toward the direction of what appears to be the White House.

This was followed by another tweet which read, "RESIDENT EVIL: Infinite Darkness is bringing back the RE2 remake's Nick Apostolides as Leon Kennedy and Stephanie Panisello as Claire Redfield." Fans who played the game should know that the two were the voice and motion-capture actors for the game.

Although Netflix is not yet ready to share the premiere date, Capcom has already shared a comprehensive synopsis via its official Resident Evil Portal. The timeline of the upcoming series is set in 2006, which is a few years after the events that transpired in "Resident Evil 4."

"In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House’s network," the story outline read. "American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate this incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies."

According to the narrative, Redfield will cross paths with Kennedy once more when she visits the White House to request humanitarian aid. Both have their own investigations to follow but are likely to team up in the latter parts of the series, as hinted by the "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness" synopsis.

Another interesting tidbit posted by Capcom says, "2021 is the 4th year Netflix joined AnimeJapan, the annual event for anime fans all over the world. Netflix will present a panel to introduce the latest upcoming anime including "RESIDENT EVIL: Infinite Darkness.'"

The exhibition is scheduled for March 27. It will be an online-only event due to the ongoing pandemic. Some are speculating that Netflix and Capcom might announce the release date of "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness" at the event.
