Capcom warned fans of a new wave of phishing emails masked as Early Access invitation to its upcoming horror game "Resident Evil Village."

The Japanese video game developer and publisher sent a notice to Destructoid and an email to some, advising those who received the Early Access invitation to play "Resident Evil Village" not to accept it. It turns out this invitation seems to be a phishing attempt from a third-party. Capcom has not announced any additional opportunities for fans to try the game ahead of its official launch as of press time.

In the email, Capcom says, "We’re sending this message as we’ve been made aware that there are currently emails circulating that pretend to contain “Early Access invitations” to Resident Evil Village. The sender address is being displayed as “no-reply(at)capcom(dot)com.” The email notes that Capcom "want[s] to inform you that these messages are NOT from Capcom and appear to be phishing attempts by an unauthorized third party.

For those who received the Early Access invitation, Capcom recommends "NOT [to] download any files or reply, and delete the message immediately. If you are unsure of the authenticity of correspondence from Capcom, please contact us directly to verify." Currently, Capcom has only one "Resident Evil Village" adjacent beta.

The company launched the game's closed beta test for its multiplayer element, "Resident Evil Re: Verse," in January 2021. Capcom announced it, conducted registration and shared the announcement and details on its official website. "Resident Evil Village" is set to launch on May 7. Considering the game's imminent arrival, these scammers are most likely taking advantage of the hype.

Fans and consumers should always be cautious when opening and responding to emails that seemed too good to be true. Most of the time, these are phishing emails and scams. It is better to always check the sender's address and not to click any link attached in the email.

"Resident Evil Village" is scheduled to roll out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The upcoming horror title also launches on next-generation gaming consoles' Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PS5.
