R.I.P. ‘Game Of Thrones’ Villain: It’s About Time You Died
Ramsay Bolton, formerly known as Ramsay Snow, of House Bolton has died — finally.
The warden of the North (Iwan Rheon) was killed within the walls of Winterfell following the Battle of the Bastards — a war waged between Ramsay and the former lord commander of the Night’s Watch, Jon Snow (Kit Harington), over the claim to Winterfell and title of warden of the North.
Ramsay, who specialized in torture and manipulation, died as he lived — brutally. The son of the deceased Lord Roose Bolton (Michael McElhatton) met his demise after being mauled to death by his own hungry hounds — an execution that was chosen for Ramsay by his estranged wife, Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner). The vicious execution style was a personal favorite of Ramsay’s — one that he commonly practiced upon his enemies, including his infant half-brother and Walda Frey (Elizabeth Webster), the wife of his father.
The bloody execution took place after Ramsay witnessed his defeat on the battlefield, prompting him to retreat behind the walls of Winterfell. However, Jon Snow was able to infiltrate the locked gates with the help of Wildling giant Wun Wun (Ian Whyte), who Ramsay later killed with an arrow to the head. John Snow retaliated by repeatedly punching Ramsay in the face before locking the blood-covered lord in the kennel he created for his deadly hounds.
Ramsay, born to Lord Bolton and an unnamed “peasant girl,” was raised in Dreadfort, his father’s castle. Ramsay followed in his father’s manipulative footsteps throughout his adolescent life before proving himself by besieging Moat Cailin. The act earned Ramsay his father’s approval and led to his legitimization from a bastard to a Bolton.
Lord Bolton then sealed his son’s fate as his heir by arranging Ramsay’s marriage to Sansa Stark. However, Lord Bolton threatened to disinherit his son in favor of his regally born child with Walda Frey when Sansa escaped Winterfell. This lead Ramsay to kill his father, stepmother and half-brother in fear that his title would be taken away. Ramsay then ruled as the warden of the North before being defeated by Jon Snow and his army.
Ramsay Bolton is survived by his wife, Sansa Stark, his brother-in-laws Jon Snow and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and his sister-in-law Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).
