The members of British the royal family have been warned against imitating “soap stars.”

Dennis Skinner, who served as a Labour MP for 49 years, opened up about the royal family. Many considered this year Queen Elizabeth II’s second “annus horribilis,” so he shared his thoughts what went wrong regarding the royal family.

For him, the royals are trying to be mysterious and regal while simultaneously being relatable and down to Earth. For him, they can’t have it both ways, and their attempts to be similar to “soap stars” have only led to negative feelings towards them.

“They want to be, on the one hand, mysterious, and on the other hand, they want to be in the public eye – and you can’t have both. You can’t be both regal and common at the same time, and that’s what they’ve tried to be,” he said (via Express).

“They want to be in the footlights, they want to be like soap opera stars. My view is they’ve stripped away those veneers themselves in the last few years with the net result that the British people – a lot of them – are now saying that the Queen could be the last reigning monarch,” he continued.

A few weeks back, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became emotional in a documentary when they shared their struggles as working royals and first-time parents under constant media scrutiny. However, several royal followers slammed the couple because it appeared to them that they were only complaining about their privileged lives.

Karol Markowicz, a columnist at New York Post, took to Twitter and said that she went from not caring about the British royal family to “actively disliking” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in their documentary interviews. Another social media user said that Prince Harry and Markle were “agonizing.” According to her, Prince Harry never bothered her but ever since he got with Markle, he became “nauseating.”

In related news, historian Greg Jenner warned the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge about their future roles in the monarchy. He said that Prince Charles and Prince William will have a “tough job” because Queen Elizabeth II, herself, is a massive factor in the current support for the monarchy.
