The following royal scandals make 2019 Queen Elizabeth II’s “annus horribilis 2.”

Those who follow the royal family would agree that the members of the Firm have been plagued with various controversies this year. Below are some of the scandals that prompted many to believe that 2019 is another annus horribilis for the monarch.

Prince Philip’s Car Crash

Earlier this year, the Duke of Edinburgh was involved in a car crash. The royal walked away uninjured but the medics were concerned about the delayed symptoms.

Dr. Nick Scriven, President of the Society for Acute Medicine, said that the encounter was not a minor event for the royal who was 97 years old at the time of the accident. The professional added that the duke would have a slow recovery time due to his age.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s endless criticisms

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been subjected to various criticisms this year. In July, Markle watched Wimbledon and was slammed after her security guards stopped a fan from taking a selfie near her. Prior to that, the couple has been slammed for using the taxpayers money in renovating their new home Frogmore Cottage while keeping details about their son Archie private.

Prince Harry and Markle faced another intense backlash for taking four private flights in 11 days while championing the environment. The duke defended his choice and said that they did it to ensure that his family was safe.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were also criticized by the public when their ITV documentary aired where they shared their struggles as royals and first-time parents. Following the interview, many bashed the couple for complaining about their royal lives.

Prorogation of Parliament

The Queen herself was dragged into a controversy when she approved Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s decision to prorogue parliament in October. The incident was considered a “political and constitutional hurricane” that dragged the monarch out of the shadows and into the limelight. The Supreme Court later ruled the prorogation “unlawful, void and of no effect.”

Prince Andrew’s Epstein scandal

The Duke of York’s connection with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein caused him to walk on thin ice. Just recently, he broke his silence by denying the claims that he had sex with Virginia Roberts.

However, many were disappointed with his car crash interview. Shortly after the interview aired, the duke announced that he was stepping down from his royal duties.
