Ryan Gosling And Eva Mendes Celebrate Daughter Esmeralda’s First Birthday With Quiet Family Affair
Most celebrity couples throw lavish expensive parties to celebrate their child’s first birthday, but not Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling. The notoriously private couple, who secretly welcomed a baby girl named Esmeralda Amada last September, reportedly invited a few friends and family members over to their Los Angeles home on Saturday for a small birthday bash.
Sources told Entertainment Tonight, Mendes and Gosling skipped the loud music, over-the-top decorations and huge guest list. “It was a pretty quiet family affair,” the source said. “There was no music or any sign of other babies or older kids.”
The site reports Gosling’s older sister, Mandi, was spotted entering the couple’s home holding a chocolate cake, and his mom, Donna, was also present for the get-together. Mendes’ sister, Janet, was also seen at the Los Angeles mansion. Even though Esmeralda didn’t have a big first birthday party, a number of cool gifts were spotted at the home including a Disney diaper bag, toys for a ball pit and a tiny rocking horse.
It should come as no surprise that the “Hitch” actress and Gosling decided to scale-down the birthday festivities for their daughter. The couple, who started dating after meeting on the set of their 2012 film “The Place Beyond the Pines,” has been relatively mum about Esmeralda.
The pair kept the impending baby news hidden from media throughout most of Mendes’ pregnancy. News broke the actress was expecting when she was already seven months along. They also never officially announced the birth of their baby girl last September, and have yet to release photos of her.
However, in recent months both Mendes and Gosling have been opening up a little more about their baby. In March, the 41-year-old actress joked with Extra TV that her daughter only wakes up “at 3 or 4 in the morning,” and she was suffering from lack of sleep. Gosling also told E! News around the same time that being a father was “an exciting time. It’s really nice.”
