Is Ryan Gosling A Father? Facebook Hoax Claims Actor Adopted A Baby
Is Ryan Gosling a daddy? Hey girl, don’t believe everything you read on social media.
Some were duped into believing Father’s Day 2014 was an extra-special one for the “Drive” actor after he fell victim to a Facebook hoax during the weekend, according to E! News, and that caused hundreds of thousands of fans to believe that Gosling, 33, adopted a baby for a year.
The fake Facebook page posted a picture of Gosling holding a baby and smiling away from the camera. By Monday, nearly 1 million people liked the post, more than 20,000 commented and 50,000 people shared it. (This is definitely how widespread rumors get started.)
Though the post seems to have been edited, it originally linked to another page where fans can buy shirts, E! News reported. The link no longer exists, but it supposedly claimed that proceeds would go to Orphanage Home Foundation, which isn't a real organization. Also, apparently anyone who bought a shirt would have a chance to go on a date with the Canadian hunk: good for sales, bad for plausibility. Still, 41 out of 50 “Young Wild and Free” shirts were sold for $22.50.
The phony adoption post still exists on the bogus page. "This father's day, I've decided to tell the story of how I became a father,” the post read. “This little guy was only 9 months old when I became his dad. His mom and I were great friends before she passed away from cancer. I promised her, I'd always look after him. So, I had decided to step up and become his dad. He brought me so much joy. He was my everything.”
The post continued: "1 year later after the adoption, his biological father wanted him. Of course, I put up a fight, but he won. That 1 year of being his father taught me how to love unconditionally. We have to stop and be thankful for our children and children should stop and be thankful for their parents. What I truly learned most of all is, every child needs love. Save thousands of children and meet me while doing it.”
