Ryan Gosling To Star In Neil Armstrong Biopic, Movie Directed By ‘La La Land’ Director
“La La Land” actor Ryan Gosling is going to play the first man who set foot on the moon.
The “Blade Runner 2049” actor is going to play Neil Armstrong and the movie will be directed by none other than Damien Chazelle, who also directed “La La Land,” reports Entertainment Weekly. Universal Pictures announced the news Thursday.
The feature film will be based on “First Man: The Life Of Neil A. Armstrong” written by James R. Hansen. It will focus on the period between 1961 and 1969 – the years that NASA tried to put a man on the moon. Of course, the mission came at a great personal cost and the movie will emphasize these costs for both Armstrong and the nation. The book is said to be a visceral, first-person account of a dangerous mission.
Apart from the 36-year-old actor and Chazelle, Academy Award-winning screenplay writer Josh Singer is also attached to the project. He won an Oscar for “Spotlight.”
The Neil Armstrong biopic may be another Oscar-worthy movie since popular and talented people are already part of the film.
“La La Land” released in theatres earlier this month and quickly became a darling of the awards season. The film bagged seven Golden Globe nominations this year including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Performance By an Actress – Musical or Comedy (Emma Stone), Best Performance By an Actor – Musical or Comedy (Ryan Gosling), Best Director (Damien Chazelle), Best Screenplay (Damien Chazelle), Best Original Score and Best Original Song (“City Of Stars”).
Speculations suggest that “La La Land” will also receive several nominations at the Academy Awards.
Gosling’s next movie is “Blade Runner 2049.” Set 30 years after the sci-fi classic, the movie follows Gosling as he becomes the new Blade Runner. The movie is produced by Ridley Scott who also directed the original one.
