Ryan Seacrest Announces ‘American Idol’ Return As Host Of ABC’s Reboot
Ryan Seacrest will officially return to “American Idol.”
On Thursday’s episode of “Live With Kelly and Ryan,” Seacrest himself made the announcement. According to him, “American Idol” paved the way for so many opportunities in his career, so he was grateful for the opportunity to once again host the show. “It’s been an incredible journey from day one. To be asked to return this year, at my new home at ABC, is an honor, if not a bit surreal,” he said.

Seacrest went on to say that he believes ABC is the perfect home for “American Idol.” “I have every confidence the show’s legions of fans will love it – especially Idol’s best traditions of showcasing heartwarming stories, remarkable talent discovery, and, best of all, making dreams come true,” he concluded.
ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey also expressed her excitement over Seacrest’s return as host next year via a statement. “So much of ‘American Idol’s’ overwhelming success can be attributed to Ryan, whose larger-than-life personality and laudable dedication of creating quality entertainment has made him a true master of his craft. His talent is limitless, and I can’t think of a more appropriate person to honor the ‘Idol’ legacy as it takes on new life than the man who has been there through it all,” she said.
Word about the “American Idol” reboot first came to light earlier this year. Originally, FOX and NBC were competing against each other to release the new episodes. But in May, it was announced that ABC will the one airing the reboot. A few days later, “Roar” singer Katy Perry signed on as judge. As of late, no other judges have been announced.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, it was confirmed that FOX will create a new singing reality TV competition that will compete with the “American Idol” reboot, as well as NBC’s “The Voice.” According to Variety, FOX’s upcoming show will be different since the four finalists will already be chosen at the beginning of the competition. Every week, new challengers will compete against them and may take their spot if their performances are not up to par with the judges.
FOX used to be the home of “American Idol” for 15 seasons.
“American Idol” reboot is slated for release sometime next year.
