Sarah Ferguson Engagement Ring: When Was The Last Time She Used It?
Sarah Ferguson received a lavish engagement ring from Prince Andrew.
The Duke and Duchess of York were so in love when they started dating. Prince Andrew gave his then wife-to-be a very expensive Burmese ruby and diamond engagement ring when he proposed.
According to Emily Hodgkin, a journalist from Express, Ferguson was still seen using the sparkler years after her divorce from Prince Andrew. The duchess was last seen wearing her engagement ring in public on Sept. 6, 2000, for Princess Beatrice's first day at St. George's School. The ring was seen when Ferguson hugged her daughter.
At that time, Ferguson was already legally divorced from Prince Andrew for four years and they had been separated for eight years already. Prior to that, the Duchess of York was also seen with the bling on Dec. 7, 1995.
According to Prince Andrew, it was a mutual decision that red is the best color for Ferguson, so he purchased a ruby. He also teased what they wanted the ring to be during their engagement interview.
"We came to the mutual conclusion that red was probably the best color for Sarah. That's how we came to the choice of the ruby. The extra bits around the outside, we wanted something that was slightly unconventional," Prince Andrew said.
Ferguson finds her engagement ring "stunning" and "red." It costs $33,000 back in 1986 and is not too far behind from Princess Diana's sparkler from Prince Charles that costs $37,000 in 1981.
It remains unknown where Ferguson's engagement ring is at the time. If she was granted the same rights as Princess Diana, she could keep her own jewels.
Meanwhile, the late Princess of Wales' engagement ring was being passed down to Kate Middleton. Prince William used it when he popped the big question to the Duchess of Cambridge as a tribute to his mom. Prince William and Prince Harry have been making extra efforts to include Princess Diana in the special events in their lives.
On the other hand, Princess Eugenie's engagement ring was very similar to her mom's. The design bears resemblance to the ring Prince Andrew gave to Ferguson, but it has a different stone and color.
"Like her mother, the Duchess of York and indeed Princess Diana, Eugenie's ring has a center oval precious gemstone and this one certainly has not disappointed," Deborah Papas, a gemologist from Prestige Pawnbrokers, told the Sun. "It is a padparadscha sapphire surrounded by 10 brilliant cut diamonds and two pear cut diamonds to give an edge to the standard classic cluster."
