Sarah Palin Reacts To Bristol Palin’s Engagement; Reveals Details About Dakota Meyer’s Proposal

Sarah Palin took to Facebook to write about how happy she was for daughter Bristol’s engagement. Former Marine Dakota Meyer proposed to the politician’s daughter on Friday night at a Rascal Flatts concert.

“Our families couldn’t be happier for Bristol and Dakota!” Palin, 51, wrote. “We’re honored to welcome Dakota into our family.”

Palin revealed some details about Meyer’s proposal as well. Meyer, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, had popular country music group Rascal Flatts dedicate a song to Bristol. “Rascal Flatts dedicated a perfect song to them last night during their concert as Dakota proposed; it sums it up best: 'Every long lost dream led me to where you are ... they were like Northern stars pointing me on my way into your loving arms. This much I know is true – that God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you,'” Palin wrote.

The song she quoted was Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road.” Palin added that the lyrics were appropriate for the couple. “Had tough circumstances in their lives not occurred, and had they reacted differently to those circumstances, they’d have never met,” the former vice presidential candidate explained.

Bristol also thought Meyer’s proposal was fitting. “He’s so romantic! He asked me to marry him at a Rascal Flatts concert. The lead singer, Gary LeVox, dedicated 'Bless the Broken Road' to us, and then Dakota got down on one knee and proposed!” she added on her blog.

Bristol, 24, met Meyer, 26, while filming “Amazing America,” Sarah Palin’s docu-series that explores the lives of interesting Americans. Sarah Palin said could see similarities between the pair immediately. “Even then it was noticed that just as we like to describe Bristol as 'an old soul' wise beyond her years, the same also applies to Dakota,” Palin said.

The male “old soul” even followed old school traditions. “He flew up North last week to ask both Todd and Bristol’s grandfather, Chuck, Sr., for her hand in marriage!” Palin revealed.

Bristol has one son, Tripp, 6, fathered by Levi Johnston. While Sarah Palin seems happy that her daughter is marrying a former Marine, she also added that the way Meyer treats Bristol's son is impressive, calling him “a good and kind man who loves Bristol and Tripp, and is loved by them.”

Meyer also shared his excitement with fans. “We only have one life to live and we have to do our best to live it the right way, and Bristol makes me a better man,” Meyer wrote on his Facebook page. “I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her and Tripp.”

The couple hasn't revealed when they're planning to tie the knot.
