'#Scammys' Trends On Twitter After Ariana Grande And Lana Del Rey Snubbed
Neither Ariana Grande or Lana Del Rey took home anything at the 2020 Grammy Awards on Sunday night and their fans are not pleased. Instead, Billie Eilish was the star of the evening, taking home five Grammys after being nominated in six different categories -- but even she had something to say about Grande’s Grammy snub.
“Can I just say that Ariana deserves this,” the 18-year-old Eilish said during her Album of the Year acceptance speech. A clip of her speech has since gone viral on Twitter, with some fans siding with Eilish in saying that Grande deserved to win the Grammy. Eilish also cited Grande’s “Thank U, Next” album in her acceptance speech, stating that it “got me through some [expletive].”
Similarly, Lana fans have taken to Twitter to express their upset with the 2020 Grammy’s after snubbing her for Album of the Year with “Norman F***ing Rockwell!”
Del Rey’s producer for that album was also nominated for Producer of the Year- non-classical, losing out to Eilish’s own older brother Finneas O'Connell, who produced Eilish’s “WWAFAWDWG.”
Needless to say, Twitter users have something to say about all of the 2020 Grammy Awards snubs with the hashtag #Scammys trending on the social media platform.
All is not lost, however, as Eilish broke records with her Grammy wins at the 2020 Grammys. She solidified wins in four of the biggest categories, winning Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year. The most recent person to do that was Christopher Cross almost 40 years ago. Eilish is the first woman ever to achieve this milestone during one show.
Some other highlights from last night were Lil Nas X taking home the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his collaboration with Billy Ray Cyrus on “Old Town Road” and Lizzo for the Best Pop Solo Performance with her track “Truth Hurts.” Watch all the best Grammy 2020 moments here.
