Selena Gomez, The Weeknd Confirm Relationship On Social Media? Singers Follow Each Other On Instagram
Following the news about Selena Gomez and The Weeknd’s relationship earlier this month, social media users have followed the story with keen interest. However, the public’s curiosity also sparked numerous rumors and speculations regarding Hollywood's newest couple.
A recent report from Vanity Fair pointed out “an army of Internet conspiracy theorists” have been closely monitoring and following Gomez and her rumored boyfriend’s relationship. As reports emerged that the couple has leveled up their relationship and reached a “major milestone” after following each other on Instagram, the publication revealed how the “modern social media-driven celebrity culture” turned several netizens into conspiracy theorists highlighting every move of a celebrity, even the smallest, non-newsworthy ones.
In addition, the publication noted how Gomez and The Weeknd’s love affair crossed several thresholds — from the blurry paparazzi images to The Weeknd’s ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid’s reaction to the relationship and the couple’s next level status. Article writer Lauren Le Vine, however, warned readers to be vigilant about what they’re reading online.
Le Vine also stressed that people should never confuse celebrities who are following each other on social media as “Instagram official,” which means sharing of photos of one another on their respective accounts, as per Us Weekly. In fact, the rumored lovebirds do not seem ready at all for a “public declaration of love.”
Speaking of Gomez and The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, TMZ reported the 24-year-old “Hands to Myself” singer was spotted with Bella Hadid’s ex-beau in another date night sighting at Dave & Buster’s in Hollywood on Wednesday night. The couple was reportedly joined by their mutual friends, including French Montana and Jaden Smith.
Meanwhile, Gomez and Tesfaye were reportedly taking their relationship to the next level by getting the family approval. According to Daily Mirror, Gomez’s cousin Priscila DeLeon has also followed the 26-year-old “Starboy” hitmaker on social media.
