Selena Gomez, The Weeknd Split: Sources Reveal Why The Singer Dumped Girlfriend

Selena Gomez and The Weeknd’s relationship may be over, but that doesn’t mean the split was a mutual agreement. According to sources close to the stars, the “Starboy” singer was the one who dumped the “Bad Liar” artist.

Insiders told TMZ that the couple, who were first romantically linked in January when they were photographed kissing while out on a dinner date, had been spending a lot of time apart, and the distance became an issue for the Toronto native.

The former couple’s relationship began to fizzle over the summer, when The Weeknd went on tour and Gomez was busy filming. Due to their hectic schedules, the two barely saw one another and their constant contact over the phone began to decrease.

The Weeknd reportedly called Gomez several weeks ago to officially end their relationship. Sources said the “Acquainted” singer enjoyed his time living the single life and was unhappy staying in a relationship that no longer had any sparks.

Despite the split, the two have remained cordial with one another and have even spoken a few times since the break up. Although there are several rumors circulating that the split was over Gomez’s friendship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, sources close to the star revealed that the 25-year-old actress didn’t start speaking to the “Purpose” singer until after her break up.

Those close to Gomez believe that the actress may get back together with Bieber, who she dated on and off from 2011-2014. “Selena was happy with Abel,” the insider told Us Weekly. “Justin always had her heart and attention. He was always her soulmate and her one true love. Selena and Justin realized it was time to grow past their history and move on. They’ve grown up a lot in the past couple of years and are mature about the situation.”

Despite talk of Gomez’s possible reconciliation with Bieber, the “Fetish” singer was recently spotted wearing The Weeknd’s jacket, which begs the question whether she is still carrying a flame for “The Hills” singer. For now, it looks like the star is enjoying life and taking things one day at a time.
