‘Sense8’ Cast Reacts To Netflix’s Movie Announcement After Cancellation
The “Sense8” fans managed to do the impossible. Even after Netflix told audiences that the petitions and Twitter campaigns wouldn’t work, they persisted, and Netflix announced Thursday that the sci-fi series would return for a two-hour movie.
In a letter posted on the official “Sense8” Twitter page, showrunner Lana Wachowski revealed that she had fallen “into a fairly serious depression” after Netflix announced the drama would be canceled earlier this month. The series had ended on a massive cliffhanger, and fans were upset.
As previously reported, fans were writing petitions, trending hashtags and contacting Netflix. However, Netflix responded by telling fans there was nothing that could be done. “The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t,” Netflix wrote on the show’s Tumblr.
It seems they may have exaggerated. “The passionate letters, the petitions, the collective voice that rose up like the fist of Sun to fight for this show was beyond what anyone expected,” Wachowski wrote in her letter Thursday.

She revealed that “Sense8” has been granted a two-hour finale to wrap up the storyline. The movie will hit screens in 2018, and Wachowski sounds optimistic about a possible third season. “After that… if this experience has taught me anything, you NEVER know,” she wrote. Read her full letter below:
The cast seems pretty delighted that they’ll be coming back. Tina Desai plays Kala, the woman stuck in a loveless marriage but in love with her fellow sensate Wolfgang (Max Riemelt). It seems she’s happy that Kala will get to save her lover.
“I cannot imagine the power of this show’s supporters!!!” she wrote. “Look what you achieved!!!”
Freema Agyeman shared the enthusiasm. She plays Nomi’s (Jamie Clayton) new fiancée Amanita. The two proposed to each other in the Season 2 finale, but now fans might have a chance to see a wedding. Of course, that’s if they’re not too busy taking BPO members in London hostage. “We're coming back!!!!” Ageyman wrote with a slew of emojis.
