‘Shameless’ Season 6 Spoilers: Episode 2 Synopsis Released; What Will Happen In ‘Abortion Rules’?
From Frank’s (William H. Macy) relentless sulking to Carl’s (Ethan Cutkosky) not-so-solo return from juvy, Fiona (Emmy Rossum) endured her fair share of drama throughout the Season 6 premiere of “Shameless.” But ultimately, it was Debbie’s (Emma Kenney) chaotic storyline that caused the Gallagher matriarch the most grief when it was revealed Deb had lied to her sister about her pregnancy.
According to Showtime's synopsis for episode 2, titled “Abortion Rules,” Fiona will become “determined to persuade” her younger sister to abort the pregnancy while Debbie will remain persistent on keeping the baby (despite the father of her unborn child being exiled to live with his grandparents in Florida).
In an attempt to prove to her big sister that she’s capable of raising of child as a single mother while still attending school, Deb will carry around a bag of flour in the upcoming installment. But, the expecting mother will “quickly realize that people are not as accommodating to mothers and babies as she hoped.”
During an interview with TVLine, executive producer Nancy Pimental revealed that the Gallagher girls will continue to butt heads throughout “pretty much the whole season.”
“What we really wanted to do with Debbie — this storyline is so great [and] is already causing so much talk — was to show teenage pregnancy in a different way than we’ve seen it, where her choice actually kind of make sense and she has thought about this and she is mature in her own way,” Pimental dished.
Although Debbie’s pregnant plot plays a pivotal role in the upcoming season, Lip’s (Jeremy Allen White) relationship with his former professor, Helene (Sasha Alexander), will also be explored as Season 6 progresses. In an episode 2 sneak peek, fans are teased just how complex Lip’s feelings for Helene are after he uncovers that their romance isn’t quite what he thought it was.
Season 6 of “Shameless” airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
