Simu Liu Reacts To Destin Daniel Cretton Helming 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty'
Actor Simu Liu is happy for director Destin Daniel Cretton as he will be helming Marvel's upcoming project, "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty." Cretton also helmed Liu's first Marvel movie, "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," which was dropped in September last year.
The 33-year-old Canadian stuntman tweeted an article link on Tuesday that confirmed Cretton, 43, will direct Marvel Cinematic Universe's highly anticipated movie, titled "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty."
Liu recalled how he was sitting backstage with the director during 2019's Comic-Con International: San Diego and saw some of the most "famous people" walking on the stage. The actor shared how they looked at each other, thinking that the moment was surreal.
"Three years ago at SDCC 2019 Destin and I sat backstage at Hall H watching some of the most famous people on Earth take the stage. We looked at each other like "damn, is this really happening to us right now?" he wrote. "IT'S F**KING HAPPENING BROTHER!"
Fans shared their reactions in the comments section.
One of the fans wrote, "Shang-Chi was easily one of my favorite superhero movies ever and going to making The Kang Dynasty is just the definition of progress" while another one added, "Praying we see Shang Chi as a core member of The Avengers."
While fans have been speculating that Liu (who played Shang-Chi) in "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" will appear in the upcoming movie, there has been no official confirmation on the actor playing any role in the movie yet.
"Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" is slated to release on May 2, 2025. Actor Jonathan Majors is all set to portray the supervillain, Kang the Conqueror, in another Marvel movie "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," which is slated to release on Feb. 17.
Kang’s character was first created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The character first appeared in the 1963 comic book, "Fantastic Four #19."
"Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" was made with a budget of $150–200 million and it has been a box office success as it grossed $432 million worldwide.
