  • Sony starts the production of the PS5 this week, according to a new report

Sony will hold its first PlayStation 5 digital event on June 11, 2020. Last year, the company announced that the next generation gaming console would arrive sometime in the holiday of 2020. A new report seemingly aligns with this timeline as the company has reportedly begun the production of the PS5.

Japanese gaming console maker Sony has started the production of its next generation gaming console according to a new report from Gamerant. The site claimed that it got the information from Business Korea. According to unnamed sources, the PS5 will enter into production this week.

Business Korea added that Sony depends on third-party vendors for most of the PS5's components. It claimed that suppliers of the Japanese console maker began their respective roles in the production process. Earlier this week, Digitimes reported that the primary System On Chip (SoC)of the PS5 gaming console is nearing the final stages of its production process.

The Taiwan-based publication cited sources inside the semiconductor supply chain for the latest information about the PS5’s chip. The main AMD CPU of Sony’s upcoming console has reportedly entered testing and would be delivered to downstream manufacturers soon after. Sony’s Mark Cerny previously revealed that the PS5 would feature a custom AMD Zen 2 eight-core CPU that could offer up to 3.5 GHz.

The Taiwan-based publication further claimed that it expects the production of the PS5 to peak by August. These details, along with the recent information shared by Business Korea, seemingly align with the release window of the PS5. Some fans are a bit reluctant in believing that Sony could release the gaming console on time considering the effects of the current global health crisis to various businesses all over the world.

Meanwhile, Sony announced the new date for the much-awaited PlayStation 5 digital event. The company earlier postponed the reveal event to give way so more important voices could be heard. Sony found it hard to celebrate while the many people in the US and in other parts of the world are launching mass protest following the death of George Floyd.

The PS5 digital event is set to happen on June 11, 2020.
