‘Suits’ Creator Aaron Korsh Reveals Details About Potential Gina Torres Spinoff
Aaron Korsh has shared a few details about the potential Gina Torres-led “Suits” spinoff that he’s currently developing with Universal Cable Prods. for USA Network.
In an interview with Deadline, Korsh — who will serve as an executive producer and showrunner on the spinoff — revealed that the possible new show was actually pitched by Torres after she left “Suits” as a series regular in September.
“Gina had the idea and went to the studio. She pitched an idea of what happens if we follow [her ‘Suits’ character] Jessica into the future a little bit,” Korsh said. “She has a specific take on it that we’re still mulling over right now. They were excited about it, I was excited about it, and we decided to move forward with thinking about what it is.”
Although Korsh has a lot of work to do in the upcoming Season 7 of “Suits,” Korsh didn’t have a hard time committing himself to the spinoff.
“Jessica Pearson is an iconic character in my mind and hopefully in the public’s mind,” Korsh said. “Gina Torres is a consummate professional both as an actress and brilliant human being… So when we talked about it, we got very excited about it — both from a creative possibility standpoint and just working with Gina. She’s just such a pleasure to work with, so though it is in its early stages, I’m very excited because I love Gina and I love Jessica.”
In Season 6, episode 10 of “Suits,” Jessica moved to Chicago with her lover Jeff (D.B. Woodside). And when she reappeared in last night’s Season 6 finale, the former managing partner of Pearson Specter Litt was still living in Chicago. Does this mean that the spinoff will be set in Chicago?
“There’s no guarantee that it will be Chicago or anything like that, but absolutely that’s a possibility,” Korsh told The Hollywood Reporter.
Aside from starring in the spinoff, Torres will also produce the spinoff.
