‘Supergirl’ Actor David Harewood Turns 51, Gets Birthday Greeting From Co-Star Chyler Leigh [PHOTOS]
David Harewood, who turned 51 on Thursday, Dec. 8, recently got a birthday shoutout from his “Supergirl” co-star Chyler Leigh.
On Friday, Leigh greeted the birthday boy on Instagram with a photo of him lying on the floor of show’s D.E.O set. In the caption for the photo, Leigh — who plays Alex Danvers on the series — wishes Harewood the best in all aspects of his life and let him know that she’s honored to be his colleague and friend.
On his birthday, Harewood took a break from playing “Supergirl’s” J’onn J’onzz in Vancouver and flew to Los Angeles to attend GQ Men of the Year party at Chateau Mormont.
During the event, Harewood hung out with “Underground” actor Aldis Hodge, “Survivor’s Remorse” star Catfish Jean and “Luke Cage” star Mahershala Ali.
In a tweet, the birthday celebrant gushed over Ali, who also stars in this year’s Barry Jenkins-directed movie, “Moonlight.”
Harewood received an early birthday present last month when he got an Independent Spirit Awards nomination for Best Male Lead for his role as Abe Wilkins in the film “Free in Deed.” His co-star Edwina Findley, who plays Melva Neddy in the film, is also among the nominees for Best Supporting Actress.
“Free in Deed” cinematographer Ava Berkofsky is also nominated for Best Cinematography. Producers Mike S. Ryan, Michael Bowes and Brent Stiefel and director John Mahaffy are also up for the John Cassavetes Award.
“Free in Deed” follows the story of a lonely Pentecostal minister named Abe who tries to perform a miracle. When a single mom brings her young son to church for healing, Abe is forced to face his own demons and save the child from his seemingly incurable illness.
“Free in Deed” was initially released on Sept. 11, 2015 and won the award for Best Film in the Horizons section of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.
Meanwhile, “Supergirl’s” next episode (Season 2, episode 9), titled “Supergirl Lives,” airs sometime in January.
