‘Supergirl’ Adds Jenna Dewan Tatum; Meet The Cast Of DC’s Next Superhero Drama
“Supergirl” is turning out to have a rather large cast. Though the CBS show will focus on the titular superhero embracing her powers, Kara (Melissa Benoist) will have plenty of friends to help her save the world. Just don't expect her cousin Superman to drop in any time soon. Check out who her supporting players are:
Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane -- Jenna Dewan Tatum is the latest actress to join the DC Comics property. “The younger Lane is apparently just as 'brash, funny, and beautiful' as her big sister, but she's also 'strong, smart, and successful' all on her own,” E! Online reports. But it isn’t Kara’s new career that brings Lucy to town. She shares a past with Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), and she has some unfinished business with him.
Chris Browning as Ben Krull – Supergirl will fight plenty of bad guys, but Chris Browning’s character will be her first. According to Entertainment Weekly, he’ll appear in episode 3, and he’ll attack her in order to get revenge on her cousin Superman. However, he might stick around for a while.
Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers – The “Grey’s Anatomy” alum will once again be the sister of the show’s star. However, being in Kara’s shadow is a little different than being Meredith Grey’s sister. Since she isn’t a character from the comic books, Alex might surprise fans often.
Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen – Brooks will play a more grown up version of Superman’s friend. “He gets into the action hero world, and he is probably a little more courageous than you would expect from Jimmy Olsen,” Brooks told TV Overmind. “That’s why his name is James.”
Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El – Laura Benanti will play Kara’s birth mother in flashbacks. The “Nashville” actress will have a big role, despite not being in the present. However, her plotlines might be tear jerkers. “[Producer Greg Berlanti] just called me and said, ‘We'd like you to play this character. We want her to be somebody that people can fall in love with and relate to, and devastated by the fact that she’s dead,’” Benanti laughed to Playbill.
Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant – Bad guys aren’t always people you can fight. Cat will not make Kara’s double-life easy as her demanding boss. Kara will have to be an assistant to Cat, a Miranda Priestly-like woman who runs a global media company, and a superhero at the same time.
Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott – In the trailer, it looks like the “Smash” actor is playing Kara’s best friend. However, DC Comics fans know that Winslow Schott becomes a villain. Will the TV show deviate from the comic books? Only time will tell.
“Supergirl” premieres on CBS on Monday, Oct. 26 at 8:30 p.m. EDT on CBS.
