‘Superman’ Actor Henry Cavil Reveals How ‘Wonder Woman’ Saved DCEU
There’s been a long-standing competition between Marvel and DCEU superheroes movies, and for the longest time, it appears that Marvel has the edge. People seemed to gravitate more towards Marvel films such as “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Ant-Man,” while they criticized DCEU offerings such as “Suicide Squad” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
But things changed with the DCEU finally released Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” film. Both fans and critics raved about the film which starred Gal Gadot as the titular character. Henry Cavill, who plays the Superman for the DCEU, said the movie was actually the saving grace of the studio.
“Even if Marvel didn’t exist, we’d struggle. There was a style they [DC] were going for, an attempt to be different and look at things from a slightly different perspective, which hasn’t necessarily worked. Yes, it has made money but it has not been a critical success; it hasn’t given everyone that sensation which superheroes should give the viewer,” he told The Rake.
Cavill added that now is the best time to have a female hero, and it’s nice that DCEU is gaining momentum because he would like to continue telling the story of Superman alongside Wonder Woman and the rest of their friends from the Justice League.
“We can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told. It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. Wonder Woman was the first step in the right direction,” he continued.
Superman died in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but everybody knows that Superman won’t stay down for long. His comeback is still being teased, but people are hopeful he’ll be resurrected in “Justice League.”
Cavill already teased on Instagram earlier that his character is making a comeback there because he called it “our movie.” He is keen on its release because he is a huge “comic book movie fan.” Cavill added, I’m just chomping at the bit to sit in a cinema and watch it with a full audience!!”
“Justice League” hits theaters Nov. 17, 2017.
