Jensen Ackles wished his “Supernatural” character Dean Winchester a happy birthday. The CW

Yesterday was no ordinary day for the “Supernatural” family. Jan. 24 marks the day Mary (Samantha Smith) and John Winchester gave birth to their first son, Dean (Jensen Ackles). Neither Ackles nor the man who created his character, Eric Kripke, forgot this joyous occasion.

Ackles took to Twitter to thank Kripke for creating “the best imaginary friend” he has ever known. Kripke, in turn, wished Dean and his wife a happy birthday. Apparently, the “Supernatural” creator has a habit of giving his wife’s birthday to characters as a way to say “I love you.”

Later, the creator thanked Ackles for bringing a complexity to the CW character that he could have never dreamed of.

Kripke is currently the creator and executive producer of NBC’s “Timeless.” In it, three time travelers – a history professor named Lucy (Abigail Spencer), a soldier named Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter) and scientist and technician called Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett) -- travel through time in order to prevent the villainous Flynn (Goran Višnjić) from altering the history of America.

Although “Timeless” has received good reviews and does fairly well in terms of overall ratings, its live numbers are down. Kripke urged “Timeless” fans and the “Supernatural” family to save the show. In a long letter to fans (which he tweeted), Kripke reveals that “Timeless” is a bubble show and unless live numbers don’t tick up in the next five weeks, the show has less of a chance to be renewed.

Kripke urged fans to spread the word, get families to watch the NBC series and use various social media channels to inform people about the show.

Meanwhile, “Supernatural” fans need not wait any longer to watch Season 12. The CW series returns Thursday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. EST. “Timeless” airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
