The CW has announced the "Supernatural" Season 15 return date. The first of the final seven episodes, titled "Last Holiday," will air on Oct. 8.
The 15th and final season of "Supernatural" will conclude on Nov. 19, Deadline reported. A one-hour special, titled "Supernatural: The Long Way Home," will air right before the series finale episode.
The "Supernatural" series finale was originally scheduled for May 18, but production for the final two episodes was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The show went on hiatus on March 23 after Season 15, episode 13, "Destiny's Child."
CW president Mark Pedowitz earlier said that the final episodes of "Supernatural" will be treated as a major event, which will include a tribute to the drama. The show’s cast and crew will participate in the celebration.
"We’re going to take the negative of what happened and turn it into a positive. We plan to make an event out of it," Pedowitz said during an interview with Variety’s "Strictly Business" podcast.
Meanwhile, "Supernatural" is expected to restart filming on Tuesday, as per the production list on the Directors Guild of Canada website. Lead actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki returned to Vancouver earlier this month as Canada’s laws require visitors to quarantine for 14 days regardless of whether or not they have symptoms.
The end of "Supernatural" was announced last year. At the time, Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, said the decision to wrap up the show was made because they did not want to see the long-running series "fizzle out."
"It wasn't an easy decision,” Ackles said at a fan convention for the show in Las Vegas. "It was months and months, if not years, of discussion between he and I, between the rest of the cast, between the crew, between our writers, between our producers, between the studio, between the network. Nobody wanted to see this show fizzle out."
Meanwhile, Padalecki, who plays younger brother Sam Winchester, called it a "community decision."
"The network and the studio did not say like, ‘Hey, guys, get outta here! You’re done,'" Padalecki said.
