Although it has been more than a year since Calvin Harris’ break up with Taylor Swift, the DJ recently explained what caused him to go on an epic Twitter rant against his girlfriend following their split.

During a chat with British GQ, the “Slide” artist reflected on his brief feud with Swift after her team released a statement saying the singer “wrote ‘This Is What You Came For’ under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg.”

Harris, who called Swift out over the statement, told GQ that Twitter wasn’t the right way to express his feelings. “It was completely the wrong instinct,” he stated.

“I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled. It felt like things were piling on top of me and that was when I snapped,” Harris explained.

The DJ revealed that part of his reaction was based on his personal life being publicly exposed. “It’s very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly. The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicized than the relationship itself.”

“When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus. She respected my feelings in that sense. I’m not good at being a celebrity. But when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realize that none of that matters. I’m a positive guy,” he added.

In his now deleted tweets, Harris called out his ex-girlfriend for trying to take ample credit for his song. “I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though,” Harris wrote. It was also reported that Swift sat down at a piano and made a demo of the tune which was later made famous by Rihanna.

The DJ also hinted that Swift should turn her attention to her boyfriend at the time, Tom Hiddleston who she began dating shortly after their split. “I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do,” Harris wrote.

In a final jab, the artist alluded that Swift was not fond of singer Katy Perry. “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”

Swift’s team decided to reveal her creative additions to the song after Harris appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show where the host asked if the DJ would be teaming up with his girlfriend for a collaboration.

“You know we haven’t even spoken about it. I can’t see it happening though,” he told Seacrest. Swift was reportedly hurt by the comment and things spiraled out of control from there.

Despite Harris’ harsh words toward his ex-girlfriend, it seems like nowadays the DJ would like to leave that animosity in the past.
