Taylor Swift Wants Her Music To Live On
KEY POINTS
- Taylor Swift revealed she wants her music to live on
- Swift would have given any amount of money for her old tracks
- The "Bad Blood" hitmaker will receive Billboard's Woman of the Decade Award
After having a spectacular 2019, Taylor Swift is all set to re-record her old tracks next year because she wants her music to live on.
Swift’s comments come after she indulged in a feud with Scott Borchetta earlier this year after he sold Big Machine Records to Scooter Braun. With this deal, Braun got all the rights to all of the songs sung by the “Bad Blood” hitmaker.
Speaking in an interview with Billboard, the 29-year-old actress noted that she was never given the opportunity to buy her own music and was “denied” the chance to retain her old recordings. The singer also shared that if she were given a chance, she would have given much more “money” for the recordings.
Swift, who is Billboard’s Woman of the Decade, further stated that she spent almost ten crucial years of her life to purchase her “masters” and was denied every time.
“I want to raise my hand and say, ‘This is something that an artist should be able to earn back over the course of their deal – not as a renegotiation ploy – and something that artists should maybe have the first of refusal to buy,” Swift said. At this particular time, the “You Need To Calm Down” hitmaker admitted that she would have given any amount for those tracks.
The singer is now gearing up for all the recording sessions since she will re-record her previous six albums next year. By doing this, Swift would be able to own her previous tracks.
“And the reason I am re-recording my music next year is because I do want my music to live on. I do want it to be in movies, I do want it to be in commercials. But I only want that if I own it,” Swift said.
Swift’s recent song for the upcoming movie “Cats” has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the Original Song category. The musician was pretty excited with the nomination and thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for the recognition.
Last week, in an interview with British Vogue, the “Gorgeous” singer also stated that she’ll make sure that the next decade manages to bring her more freedom with her music. The ten-time Grammy-winning artist also opened up about how she felt while doing hundreds of shows in a year at such a young age.
“There were times when I played hundreds of shows in a year and I was like 17-years-old. I would get exhausted and burnt out and now I can work the amount I know I am capable of handling,” Swift said.
Swift will be receiving Billboard’s first-ever Woman of the Decade award at the Billboard’s Women in Music event on Dec. 12. The music industry chart announced that the musician will be receiving the prestigious trophy for her success in her career that includes five number one albums on Billboard 200 and many more achievements.
