Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' Sets Record By Topping Billboard Chart For Fourth Consecutive Week
KEY POINTS
- Taylor Swift's "Folklore" has become the first album since 2015 to spend four consecutive weeks at the number one position on the Billboard chart
- Adele was the last female musician to achieve that record with her album "25"
- "Folklore" is the best-selling album for 2020 thus far
Taylor Swift’s newest musical production “Folklore” has proven to be one of the biggest albums in recent times. After conquering the Billboard charts for the first three weeks of its release, “Folklore” is in no mood to stop. The album just claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart for the fourth consecutive week and achieved a monumental feat.
Swift’s “Folklore” has become the first album by a woman to spend its first four weeks at the numero uno position since 2015, Billboard reported. This is the first time since Adele’s blockbuster “25” that an album by a female musician has been able to stay at the top for four straight weeks.
The “Hello” hitmaker’s album spent seven straight weeks at the top. According to the media outlet, the album claimed the top spot in its launch week in December 2015 and remained there until Jan. 23, 2016.
Apart from Swift, the only other musician to achieve the feat in 2020 is The Weeknd. His album “After Hours” spent the first four weeks of its release at the top of the charts.
Billboard also cited Nielsen Music/MRC Data to confirm that “Folklore” earned almost 101,000 equivalent units in its third week. By doing so, Swift’s newest album has become the only second album in 2020 to earn at least 100,000 units in each of its first four weeks.
The only other artist to do that in 2020 is Pop Smoke. The rapper’s album “Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon” also earned 100,000 units in each of its four weeks.
Last week, Swift became the first artist in history to spend 40 weeks at the numero uno position on the Billboard Artist 100 chart. The “Cardigan” hitmaker left behind Drake (31 weeks), The Weeknd (20 weeks), Post Malone (14 weeks), and Ariana Grande (13 weeks) on the coveted list.
The album sold over 846,000 units in its first week and quickly marked the biggest week for an album that was released in 2020.
“Folklore” has a critic rating of 88 on Metacritic and has a 9.5 user rating on the site.
