‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood Is Still Getting Married To Matt Baier, Wants To Film Wedding For Season 7
Amber Portwood may not be walking down the aisle with Matt Baier this fall but they’re still engaged to be married.
After the “Teen Mom OG” star confirmed she and Matt had pushed back their Oct. 10 nuptials Tuesday, Amber spoke to WetPaint about their wedding plans. “I want to wait for everything to calm down,” Amber said, referencing the numerous reports about Matt’s backstory that came into play in Season 5 of the series and will return in the upcoming MTV installment.
“The media would have taken our wedding and turned it into something negative,” she added, saying the stress of moving and flipping a house also resulted in their decision to postpone their big day.
While they may not become husband and wife this year, wedding planning is still on Amber’s mind. “I want a destination wedding in Malibu,” she dished. As for a specific date, the mom of one said she didn’t have one in mind but wants fans to be able to watch the planning process.
“Maybe next season you guys can see us doing some of those things and actually getting married,” she teased.
Matt’s history became a big plotline in Season 5 of “Teen Mom OG” when Amber’s ex, Gary Shirley, revealed on camera that Matt was believed to have numerous child support cases against him and seven children. Matt later confirmed he has just five children. After the fact, Amber made it clear she was accepting of Matt’s past, no matter how scandalous, but the drama continued.
More recently, Matt’s son Chris, 26, slammed his parenting and called him an “evil man.” Matt denied his son’s claims, saying he was “strung out” during the interview.
Despite the numerous scandals surrounding her ex, Amber says she wants the public to know he’s a good person. “I want people to know the Matt who's talking to his kids today, who feels horrible about what has happened, who loves being around Leah, who takes care of me. He’s not the guy that people want to put him out as.”
“Teen Mom OG” Season 6 will continue to follow Amber and Matt’s relationship. Tune in to the premiere Monday, Aug. 22, at 9 p.m. EDT on MTV.
