‘Teen Wolf’ Season 5B Spoilers: Malia Meets The Desert Wolf In Episode 14 [RECAP]
“Teen Wolf” Season 5B finally gave fans some of the moments they’ve been waiting months for in episode 14. Parrish (Ryan Kelley) learned what he is. Lydia’s escape scene from June’s Season 5 premiere flash-forward was finally shown. Most importantly, Malia finally met the Desert Wolf (Marisol Nichols). But of course, they weren’t the only characters making progress this week.
Gerard (Michael Hogan) and Chris Argent (J.R. Bourne) find black soot left behind while they’re tracking the Beast of Gévaudan. They split up and Gerard confronts the Dread Doctors and uses sound waves to stop them in their tracks. He claims that he knows they’re in the same place for a reason. Chris looks in the floor vents and finds millions of bugs crawling over a pile of bodies. They’re the victims that of the Beast that the Dread Doctors are hiding.
The Sheriff (Linden Ashby), who is walking around with a cane, tells Parrish that his dreams aren’t coming true as the body bags roll in. He tells his deputy to do the police work. When Stiles (Dylan O’Brien), Scott (Tyler Posey) and Kira (Arden Cho) stop by a minute later, the Sheriff asks for a name for Parrish’s powers because his dreams are coming true.
The Sheriff calls for a sundown curfew and deputies are sent to school with high-powered rifles. Scott and Stiles ask one of the deputies why they’re around, and he claims that there was no official reason given. However, the deputy has a theory. He asks if they believe in the supernatural. It seems people might be catching on after so many weird occurrences in Beacon Hills.
Over at Eichen House, Lydia is still catatonic, but she communicates with Meredith (Maya Eschet) in some sort of dream-like state. Lydia is having trouble controlling her powers. Meredith won’t explain how she uses her own powers and claims Lydia has to figure that out by herself. She locks Lydia in a cell with bulletproof glass and says that Lydia’s voice will have to be a bullet.
Meredith later reveals that her way of accessing her powers got people hurt. She shattered the windows in her classroom and injured some of her classmates. She needs Lydia’s voice to be a bullet so that it’s focused rather than spread out.
Suddenly, Lydia suddenly sees Malia cowering in a corner. She’s having a premonition.
In the real world, Lydia is catatonic. Stiles visits her to talk about school and begs her to wake up. “C’mon Lydia, you have to come back to us,” Stiles says. “There’s no way we’re getting through this without you.”
Her mother (Susan Walters) tells Stiles to leave. He asks why part of her head is shaved. Mrs. Martin claims it’s for electoconvulsive therapy (ECT). Stiles doesn’t think that’s an ECT practice, but he has to leave. Mrs. Martin threatens to ban him if he doesn’t go. Stiles discreetly steals an employee’s ID card on his way out.
Elsewhere, Malia is working with Theo (Cody Christian) on her plan for the Desert Wolf (Marisol Nichols), even though she doesn’t trust him. He makes her step unnecessarily close to him and gives her a shot of wolfsbane. When Malia wakes up in the Dread Doctors’ office, she is restrained. Theo says she needs to stay still while she wears goggles with nails that poke into her face.
The Dread Doctors’ device hones in on a frequencies particular to supernatural creatures. Malia just has to look for a werecoyote, and eventually, she sees her mother. Conveniently, there is a sign on the wall indicating that she is at an abandoned military base in Beacon Hills.
Malia goes to Liam (Dylan Sprayberry) to send a message to Scott. Neither of them is speaking to the alpha, but Malia doesn’t care. “Tell him he was right about the tunnels,” she says.
Liam decides to go down into the tunnels by himself rather than pass the message to Scott. He runs into the alpha down there, and it turns out Scott followed him. That’s when Liam passes along Malia’s message. Scott already realized that the Dread Doctor’s lair was down there.
Liam says that he can’t just tell Scott that he’s sorry. The only way he’ll be able to make it up to him is if he saves Scott's life one day. Scott points out that with their lives, he’ll most likely have that opportunity soon.
While they’re lost in the tunnels, they find a wall fixture that opens a secret passage way. They find Chris there, and he reveals that Gerard is back. Scott’s eyes immediately go red with rage. “I haven’t seen that color on you. It suits you,” Gerard tells Scott.
They show Scott and Liam the fresco that was shown at the end of the midseason finale. It’s a hellhound and the Beast. Chris kicks more tiles down and reveals that the fight is happening on top of a pile of bodies. “It’s us,” Scott says. “It’s all of us.”
They realize that they while the Beast of Gévaudan’s identity is a mystery, they might know a hellhound. The Argents talk to Parrish, and Gerard and Chris decide hold him down and hold a blowtorch close to his face. They get his powers to react. Fangs pop out and his eyes glow. A mirror allows Parrish to see the transformation, and he finally believes he is a hellhound.
While Parrish sees himself for the first time, Malia finally meets her mother. Braeden (Meagan Tandy) isn’t thrilled that they’re working with Theo. She explains that they have more than supernatural powers to worry about. The Desert Wolf somehow lost her powers, but she’s heavily armed and a perfect shot.
When they arrive at the military base, Braeden points out that they don’t know much. Why does she have Deaton (Seth Gilliam)? Why is she back in Beacon Hills? They have no idea what they’re getting into, but Malia has her mind made up. They’re going in.
As they start to walk in, Malia says that something is wrong. They find Deaton tied up, and that’s when Theo attacks Braeden and knocks her out. He grabs her gun and shoots Malia in the stomach. He says that he didn’t have a choice. The Desert Wolf tosses him what appear to be blue claws. He leaves Malia bleeding in front of her mother.
The Desert Wolf says that Malia stole her powers. She wants to kill Malia to get her powers back. “Corinn, it has to be a full moon. You kill her now, you get nothing,” Deaton says.
While Malia is confronting the Desert Wolf, Lydia decides she has to save her friend. She finally breaks the bulletproof glass and breaks free from her catatonic state. Lydia shoots up in her bed and manages to shatter a light near the Desert Wolf.
Lydia attacks the guards while Malia faces off with her mother. Lydia’s scene is what viewers saw at the beginning of Season 5 in June. She tries to escape, but she has no luck. “My friends, they’re all going to die,” Lydia says.
The light shattering provides a decent distraction to give Malia the upper hand in her fight, but it doesn’t last long. Behind Deaton, the brick wall breaks. The Beast peers in through a hole. Malia has to make a choice to kill her mother or save Deaton and Braeden. She chooses to save her friends. They all make it out safely.
Unfortunately, Theo is also safe. He returns to find several of his pack members injured. “All of this to take down one blind werewolf,” Theo says. Theo has Deucalion (Gideon Emery). The blind alpha already knows about the Beast, and he knows that Theo wants to steal the Beast’s power. Deucalion demands Scott’s eyes in return for his help.
Back at Scott’s house, it looks like Malia and Liam are back in the pack. “Now we get Lydia,” Scott says as they look over blue prints of Eichen House.

- Kira’s father takes away her sword. He wants her to remember that she’s smarter than the kitsune spirit inside of her.
- The Desert Wolf says Talia Hale took Malia away before she could even name her daughter.
