‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Spoilers: Kevin Feige Teases New Movie Will Venture Into ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Territory
It’s the Marvel crossover everybody’s been waiting for: Taika Waititi’s new film “Thor: Ragnarok” will reportedly venture into James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” territory.
This is what Marvel president Kevin Feige confirmed during an interview with Screen Rant. He said that “Thor: Ragnarok” will have three scenes on Earth, while everything else will take place in Asgard and other places in the galaxy.
“Let’s put it this way, in Thor lingo, it’s beyond the nine realms. There are other planets that we spend a lot of time on in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, that certainly people would say, ‘Oh, that’s sort of like the Guardians world,’” he said.
On the other hand, Waititi told the A.V. Club that the setting for “Thor: Ragnarok” is what makes it so amazing. Their characters are not limited to just humans, and the Avengers get to battle outrageous characters from all over the cosmos.
“Sometimes I would stop and think, I’m doing a movie that’s got Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and every character is so strange and different,” he said. “Civil War it’s just humans, humans with human problems. Ours is creatures and beings and all these sorts of really different characters. Again displaying human problems, but in outer space or in other worlds.”
Lead star Chris Hemsworth earlier said that he wanted to inject humor into the third “Thor” franchise, and Waititi said that’s exactly what they did. “I think the overall sense that I’m trying to give to the audience and what I want the audience to leave the cinema carrying with them is a sense of joy really,” Waititi said.
“Thor: Ragnarok” will be released on Nov. 3, while “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” will be released on May 5.
