‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Star Tom Hiddleston On Whether Loki Is A ‘Monster’
Loki from “Thor” is a hard character to figure out. Sometimes he’s quite easy to like, but most of the time, he’s hell-bent on causing trouble, therefore making it difficult to side with him.
When asked about the morality of his character, Tom Hiddleston told Collider that he’s not the right person to judge Loki. “Loki is a God of Mischief. Whether he’s a monster is not for me to say,” he said.
Talking about the upcoming film “Thor: Ragnarok,” which is directed by Taika Waititi, Hiddleston said it was “fantastic” being reunited with his good friend Chris Hemsworth, who plays the god of thunder, Thor. He added that it was a huge treat working with Waititi because of his vision and sense of humor.
“He’s a wonderful director. He’s very spirited and light-hearted,” Hiddleston gushed. “Yeah, as a director, you can’t help but leave a fingerprint of who you are on the film you make, and Taika is a very warm-hearted, generous spirit who loves to make people laugh. I think you’ll definitely see humor in ‘Ragnarok.’”
Meanwhile, Hiddleston told USA Today earlier that even though Loki has grown on him, he cannot play the villain forever because “Loki is immortal and I’m deeply mortal.” Hiddleston said Marvel might have to conclude Loki’s storyline eventually or replace him as the villain. “Regeneration, at some point, will be required, I’m not quite sure when,” he said.
For now, Marvel president Kevin Feige is just thrilled they were able to make a third film out of the “Thor” franchise. Due to this, Feige said they really made an effort to give fans one exciting movie. “I have a belief that if you’re lucky enough to get to part 3 of a franchise, it is your obligation not to fall to threequel-itis,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
“Thor: Ragnarok” will be released on Nov. 3.
