Texas police have arrested four people, including three teenagers, on charges of murdering a 16-year-old boy who was shot and thrown out of a moving car.
The suspects were identified as Johnathan Pyle, 19, Simon Guillen, 18, Simon's 34-year-old mother, Crystal Guillen, and a 15-year-old minor boy whose identity has not been revealed, the Mesquite police department said in a news release.
The four were arrested on charges of capital murder and are accused of fatally shooting 16-year-old Key’mydre Palmer Anderson on Jan. 22.
Investigators believe the murder was a result of a failed robbery attempt involving the exchange of a firearm.
The incident was first reported as a motor vehicle accident. Emergency officers responded to the 2800 Block of Clay Mathis Road, Mesquite, and found Anderson lying on the ground with what appeared to be a puncture wound on the chest. Anderson was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead later.
An investigation began after a witness told the police about seeing Anderson fall from a moving vehicle. Doctors later determined that the puncture wound on his chest was caused by a gunshot.
Cops believe that Anderson was murdered for a little over $250.
"Our victim had been in communication with one or more of the suspects in regards to purchasing a firearm. When they agreed to meet up, the suspects attempted a robbery of the individual, and our victim was shot during the course of that robbery," Stephen Biggs from Mesquite Police Department said, as reported by Law & Crime.
When the officers found Anderson, he had no clothes on and his body seemed to have been severely scraped, Anderson's grieving mother, Shenika Palmer, said.
"They said his whole body was skin like he was dragged. The witness says he was dangling [from the car]. My baby was holding on. He didn't want to go," the heartbroken mom added.
The investigators tracked down Pyle and Simon Guillen using data from multiple Instagram and TikTok accounts that reportedly showed they conspired a robbery. Meanwhile, officials have not revealed how the unidentified teenager and Crystal Guillen were involved with the crime.
