Timothee Chalamet Assures 'Wonka' Isn't A Dark Origin Story, Calls It A 'Celebration'
Timothee Chalamet assured fans that his upcoming movie "Wonka" is not going to be a dark origin story. The actor, instead, called it a "celebration."
"It’s not mining the darker emotions in life," Chalamet told Time Magazine Monday. "It’s a celebration of being off-center and of being O.K. with the weirder parts of you that don’t quite fit in."
While the actor didn't disclose much about the movie, he definitely hinted that it is going to be on the brighter side. Besides Chalamet, the movie also stars Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, Matt Lucas and Jim Carter.
The 25-year-old actor is currently rehearsing in London for the musical fantasy movie in which he will portray the iconic character named Willy Wonka. The upcoming movie is a prequel to 2005's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which was directed by Tim Burton and Johnny Depp portrayed Wonka's character.
The story of the highly anticipated movie will revolve around Wonka's younger years based on Roald Dahl's iconic novel released in 1964. The movie is helmed by director Paul King.
Chalamet dropped his first look from the movie Sunday.
During the interview, the actor also spoke about the advice he received from one of his heroes without disclosing the name.
"One of my heroes – I can’t say who or he’d kick my a** – he put his arm around me the first night we met and gave me some advice," he recalled, speaking to Time Magazine. "No hard drugs, and no superhero movies."
Considering the advice, Chalamet has not featured in any superhero movie, yet.
On the work front, the "Call Me by Your Name" star will be next seen in a sci-fi adventure movie, "Dune," which is slated to release on Oct. 22. Interestingly, the sequel of the movie, "Dune: Part Two" is already under pre-production.
The actor will also feature in a comedy movie, "Don't Look Up," which is scheduled to release on Dec. 10. The movie also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep and Matthew Perry.
Chalamet will also work in a romantic horror movie, "Bones & All," which is penned by David Kajganich and directed by Luca Guadagnino.
"Wonka" is slated to release on March 17, 2023. However, the studio has not confirmed if the movie will release exclusively in theaters or land on a streaming platform simultaneously.
