KEY POINTS

  • "Titanfall 2's" player count just saw a massive increase
  • The increase in players have improved queue times and game quality in terms of player-skill matchups
  • "Titanfall 2's" gameplay and visuals hold up surprisingly well even by modern standards

Respawn Entertainment’s criminally-underplayed “Titanfall 2” has always had a bit of a cult following. The fast-paced multiplayer FPS is an amazing game with plenty of room for players to show off their skills, but its playerbase never reached the same peaks that “Call Of Duty” or “Battlefield” did.

“Titanfall 2’s” gameplay and overall quality weren’t at fault. In fact, most of the game’s core mechanics and visual presentation were carried over to “Apex Legends,” and millions of people seem to love that game significantly more.

Furthermore, many fans and critics consider “Titanfall 2’s” single-player campaign as one of the best stories in this genre of FPS games.

For the longest time, gamers were shying away from “Titanfall 2” despite all of its good points simply because the player population was low, and the fact that it was low only exacerbated the problem. The low player count not only made match queues take an extremely long time, but it also meant that most games were extremely imbalanced in terms of player skill.

In a sudden-yet-expected turn of events, EA’s decision to sell its games via Steam paved the way for more players to enter “Titanfall 2’s” multiplayer scene. With a cheeky 75% off sale and the help of the “Apex Legends Legacy” hype train, “Titanfall 2” experienced its biggest peak player count spike so far.

On Sunday, the game reached a peak player count of 16,958, according to Steam Charts. This equates to roughly 600% more players than in the previous month, which clocked only at 2,655. For players who are afraid of getting “Titanfall 2” due to the “low player count,” now is the best time to buy it.

Fans of “Apex Legends” who have never played a “Titanfall” game before will find it very easy to acclimate to the game’s environment. Most character abilities from “Apex” were lifted directly from “Titanfall 2,” so a significant portion of the game’s mechanics will already be familiar. The same goes for the arsenal of weapons that players have at their disposal.

The movement system in “Titanfall” is still one of the best and most fluid in any FPS game so far. Players can move across maps with relative ease and at insane speeds just by using the game’s parkour and momentum mechanics, while the game’s eponymous Titans create an entirely new level of depth in combat that is as fun as it is awe-inspiring.

Even at 5 years old, “Titanfall 2” continues to show how timeless it really is.
