Toddler Falls From Electric Scooter, Is Dragged Under Wheel, Miraculously Unhurt
A toddler survived after falling off her mother's electric scooter and being dragged under the wheel for over 10 meters (0.006 miles) at a busy traffic junction in China's Henan province recently.
The one-year-old was sitting in the front when the mother lost control of the vehicle. The baby trembled from her seat and got trapped under the front wheel. A traffic police officer rushed to the vehicle and saved the toddler. The baby was not injured in the incident.
A video of the incident, obtained from surveillance cameras, shows the mother losing control of the vehicle and riding across the zebra path with the baby stuck to the front wheel. As soon as she stops the scooter at the side of the road, a female police officer, Wang Yameng, rushes to save the child.
After pulling the baby out, the officer called the ambulance to take the toddler to hospital.
Xixia County police said the accident could have taken place due to the wind protection modifications added to the electric scooter. This included a blanket used as a windshield in order to protect the rider's hands and knees, Daily Mail reported.
Police added that the woman couldn’t apply brake in time as the blanket most likely got stuck to the front wheel of the scooter. The authorities also asked people not to have such modifications and to opt for gloves and protective knee pads instead.
In an unrelated incident, a mother dragged her 10-year-old son behind her on a scooter with his hands tied together to teach him a lesson in China in January 2018. It was later revealed that the mother took the extreme disciplinary measure as the boy had stolen money from the home. The video of the incident went viral on social media.
In another similar incident, a two-month-old baby survived after getting stuck in the rim of a scooter’s rear wheel in India in June 2016. The scooter met with an accident and the mother, who was riding it, died on the spot. The baby, however, got stuck to the wheel’s rim and removed safely by bystanders.
