  • Mikel Arteta avoids questions about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's status
  • Chelsea's Thomas Tuchel says he will reach out to Aubameyang
  • Aubameyang's future at the Emirates Stadium looks bleak

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future with Arsenal is sketchy at this point after the Gabonese striker was stripped of the captaincy and grounded for his alleged lack of commitment to the Gunners.

The 32-year-old has been held out of the recent assignments of the Gunners, the last of which was against West Ham United.

The Gunners hacked out a 2-0 win over the Hammers, showing they could find ways to win even without the Gabonese national.

However, it remains that the status of Aubameyang is up in the air.

Club manager Mikel Arteta shed some light behind the move to sideline the striker but avoided questions on when Aubameyang could suit up once again.

For now, Arteta refers to his absence as immaterial and said that Aubameyang was just “ineligible” for now.

"He wasn't eligible for this game and that's it. This game is gone. We will discuss it in the near future," Arteta stated when asked by BT Sport.

Aware of the current status of Aubameyang, a former coach plans to talk to the embattled striker soon.

Thomas Tuchel, currently calling the shots for Chelsea, is no stranger to the Gabonese.

Both worked together at Borussia Dortmund, something that included handing the German coach his first major honor as a coach in 2017.

Tuchel feels sorry for the turn of events surrounding Aubameyang and will at some point reach out and try to talk to him.

"I will at some point. I feel sorry that he is in trouble,” Tuchel said in a report from The Mirror. "I believe in his positive character, but I am not involved in this situation or his club. It is just about my picture and relationship."

There remains no clarity on what the future holds for Aubameyang.

He was initially dropped from the Arsenal’s lineup against Southampton after he was absent in training last December 10.

After winning over the Saints, it was announced that he was stripped of the club’s captaincy and would not play against the Hammers.

"The decision that we have taken as a club is very clear. It is because we believe that he has failed to be committed at the level that we all expect and agreed,” Arteta explained when asked about the troubled striker.

The Gunners will face Leeds on Saturday, December 18 with Arteta yet to mention if Aubameyang will finally get to play.

Should he remain out, things may get chippy moving forward–especially with the January transfer window fast approaching.
