Manchester United fans can breathe a bit easier after reports out of Italy indicate that Juventus will be giving up in its pursuit of Paul Pogba.
In an exclusive report by Caught Offside, Juventus really wants to reunite with the French midfield maestro, but the club’s financial situation is forcing them to reevaluate their level of interest in Pogba.
“We don’t think it is going to be possible now. Keep an eye on PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) and Real Madrid,” a high-level Juventus official told the football outlet.
The International Business Times could not independently verify the claims put forward by Caught Offside.
Should this be in fact happening, Manchester United has found a window of opportunity to convince Pogba to re-sign with them as his contract expires by the start of the 2022 summer transfer window.
Many Red Devils fans were concerned that the club would once again lose Pogba on a free transfer to the same Juventus side that poached him in the summer window prior to the start of the 2012-13 season.
Pogba found himself wearing the red jersey of Manchester United in 2016 after a then-world record transfer fee of €105 million ($120.2 million) that they paid out to Juventus.
Since rejoining the club, the Manchester United youth academy product had experienced two silverware-winning moments: the English Football League Cup during the 2016-17 season and the UEFA Europa League title in the same season.
Manchester United has struggled to win any other silverware after those two, with their 2017-18 second-place finish having been the closest that they have ever been to winning the English Premier League since the title win in the 2012-13 season.
However, the warning of the Juventus official puts the onus on Manchester United’s upper management to convince Pogba to re-sign lest they lose him to international giants Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain.
Pogba is yet to be seen after Manchester United’s embarrassing 5-0 loss to bitter rivals Liverpool at home last October 24, and it remains to be seen how manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will entice him to stay at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old Pogba’s next chance to make an appearance is on Saturday, November 20 against a hapless Watford squad that has nothing to lose and could very well shock the Red Devils into a loss.
