KEY POINTS

  • Man Utd are chasing Barca's defender ahead of transfer window
  • Man Utd have Everton and a few other clubs in the race to the signing
  • Barca have a rebuy clause that will let them resign him again in the next two seasons

Manchester United reportedly may offer $22 million to beat Everton in the race to sign FC Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

The teenager is expected to operate either as a central defender or a defensive midfielder at the Red Devils. However, the news reports say that Man Utd do not have a Barca buy-back option in the deal.

Todibo, who moved to Barca from French club Toulouse in January 2019, has struggled to get games with the Spanish giants as the 19-year-old has played only 77 minutes in La Liga and 90 minutes in the Champions League so far this season.

Barca have decided to trade off Todibo in the next transfer window with the idea that they will be able to sign him back in the next two seasons. The player himself has no clue what he wants at the moment and might just go with the flow.

The first club that showed interest in securing the teenage player was Bayer Leverkusen. In the last few weeks, even AC Milan have met Barca to propose a deal but the biggest interest in the teenage player has come from the Premier League.

Along with Man Utd, the likes of Everton and Southampton have been keen on signing him. While the former champions, Man Utd, have strongly pushed their case, they are not willing to follow Barca’s rebuy option. Meanwhile, the Catalans don’t want to lose control of him.

While Barca are on the top of La Liga table, Man Utd suffered yet another loss in the Premier League Sunday when they went down 2-0 against Watford in an away fixture. With six wins, seven losses and five draws, Man Utd are currently placed eighth on the table. The season is turning out to be one of their worst ones as clubs like Wolves and Sheffield United are also above them on the points table.

Earlier, there were rumors that Man Utd teenage star, Mason Greenwood’s family was offered “life-changing” money from another club for the player to leave Old Trafford.

Fortunately, the news broke to Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club has assured Greenwood's family the best for their son. There is no way they can let Greenwood leave the club at the current stage and hence they have promised Greenwood's folks that their son will get plenty of chances to play.

Under the Norweigan manager, Greenwood has a great platform to evolve as a better player and that's the most important thing right now for the young player and his family.

Recently, Solkjaer admitted that it is getting harder to leave Greenwood out of the starting XI as the young player has time and again proved his talent this season.
