Citing a few comments made by the celebrity couple in the recent past, a tabloid claimed David and Victoria Beckham were headed for a $1.2 billion divorce – a rumor that was debunked by Gossip Cop.

In its latest issue, OK! Magazine claimed the power couple was “preparing to divvy up their $1.2 billion empire” as they head their separate ways. As a means to lend credibility to the baseless story, the outlet quoted bits and pieces from Victoria's acceptance speech at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Nov. 11, where she was given the Fashion Icon Award, and David’s interview on the Australian TV show “The Sunday Project.”

The tabloid criticized the designer for choosing to focus “on extolling female empowerment” instead of singing praises of her husband and only giving David a “quick cursory mention” at the end of the speech. The magazine failed to mention how inspiring Victoria’s speech was, or how well she used the national platform to encourage young girls.

"I always told myself, 'Dream big, and then dream even bigger,’” Victoria said in her speech, ABC News reported. “And I wanted to show that if I can do it, then really anyone can do it. And what you can achieve really can be limitless, if you really — I can't help it — if you really, really want it, OK?"

"If you really put your head down, and you focus, and you work hard, and you believe in yourself, what you can achieve is incredible," she added. "So many years ago, I started with girl power, and now that message is still as strong as ever. But now it's through the privilege of being able to empower women through my designs.”

Similarly, the outlet tried to make the retired British football player’s comments on marriage sound controversial, ignoring his honest opinion about how best to make relationships work for the long term.

“I think if you know each other well, if you know you’ve got great friends and great family behind you, the thing we have to do is protect our children and we are very proud of the family. To be married for the amount of time that we have, it’s always hard work, everybody knows that, but you make it work. You make difficult situations like travelling away, being away from each other, you make it work,” David said during the interview, BBC reported.

An anonymous insider was cited by OK! Magazine who claimed that Victoria was “in tears over David’s harsh words,” and the comments made her lose the “will to save her crumbling marriage.” Conveniently, neither the tabloid nor the unnamed source offered any explanation on why their marriage was supposedly in shambles.

“The reality is they’ve grown apart,” the questionable tipster added, while the tabloid floated “claims of David’s infidelity.” In conclusion, the report also pinned the fact that “Posh” – Victoria’s stage name when she was in the Spice Girls – was not joining the band’s reunion tour in 2019 to her alleged failing marriage.

“She’ll need every ounce of strength to deal with the problems on the home front,” the insider asserted.

Gossip Cop reached out to both David and Victoria’s reps who rubbished claims made in the report. In addition, Victoria had already debunked rumors of their marital troubles last month in an interview with British Vogue.

“People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense,” she said, adding that they were “stronger together than we are as individuals.”

As to why Victoria was skipping the Spice Girls reunion tour was because she no longer considered herself a musical performer. “I hung up my microphone quite some time ago, and I get a little bit scared when I get on stage and I see a mic,” she said during the People’s Choice Awards speech.
