Twitter Reacts To Bob Corker Warning Trump Could Trigger World War III
The Twitter feud between Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tennessee) and President Donald Trump took a nasty turn Sunday morning when Trump accused Corker of deciding not to run for re-election because he “didn’t have the guts.”
POTUS further lashed out at the Republican leader saying he denied the senator's request for an endorsement. However, Corker's chief of staff, Todd Womack, denied Trump's claim, saying, "The president called Senator Corker on Monday afternoon and asked him to reconsider his decision not to seek reelection and reaffirmed that he would have endorsed him, as he has said many times," CNN reported.
Corker also replied to Trump’s remarks saying, “It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.”
In the wake of the public spat, Corker further hit back at Trump during an interview with the New York Times saying the president was treating his job like a "reality show," and that his rashness could set the country "on the path to World War III.”
Corker also said he was alarmed because Trump acted like “like he’s doing ‘The Apprentice’ or something,” New York Times reported. “He concerns me. He would have to concern anyone who cares about our nation,” he said. Twitterati was quick to react to Corker’s comments as World War III started trending on Twitter.
Ted Lieu, a U.S. Air Force veteran and member of Congress, tweeted, “Never a good thing that World War III is starting to trend on Twitter.” Reactions kept pouring in from several quarters.
Senior Editor of The Atlantic, David Frum, retweeted a picture that read, "Do you love waking up and remembering that @realDonaldTrump is president?”
He shared the picture in the tweet, saying, “The Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee says that Trump’s recklessness threatens World War III, so … no.”
Another Twitter user slammed Trump and called him a “buffoon." “World War III is trending on Twitter, and this buffoon is calling his NFL buddies to make sure the players are standing up,” she tweeted.
This is not the first time that Corker and Trump have been at loggerheads. Last week, the senator, responding to an NBC news report from Oct. 4, made some harsh remarks on the Trump administration.
He suggested Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had to be talked out of resigning from his post after differences with the president. “I think Secretary Tillerson, Secretary Mattis and Chief of Staff Kelly are those people that help separate our country from chaos, and I support them very much. And I don't know what he may have said after the briefing. I watch from — I mean, look, I see what's happening here. I deal with people throughout the administration, and [it] from my perspective is an incredibly frustrating place where, as I watch, okay — and I can watch very closely on many occasions — I mean, you know, he ends up not being supported in the way that I would hope a secretary of state would be supported,” Corker said, Washington Post reported.
