KEY POINTS

  • Melania Trump tweeted some Valentine's Day messages over the weekend but made no mention of husband Donald Trump
  • Some Twitter users mocked the former first lady's lack of Valentine's Day tribute for her husband
  • Other users defended Trump, pointing out that her message was for sick children she had visited at a hospital

Melania Trump posted a Valentine's Day tribute over the weekend, but some social media users noticed that she did not mention her husband of 15 years, Donald Trump.

The former first lady first wished everyone a happy Valentine's Day weekend on Saturday when she retweeted a heartwarming video of her meeting and interacting with children from all over the world from her time as first lady. In another tweet posted Sunday, Trump shared photos of herself visiting sick kids at The Children's Inn at the National Institute of Health, along with a special message for them.

"On this #ValentinesDay, I think of the brave & inspirational children at @TheChildrensInn @NIH where I visited the past few years," she wrote. "Sending them love & strength, today & everyday. #HappyValentinesDay."

That Trump made no mention of her husband caught the attention of some Twitter users, who then speculated about the couple's marriage.

"Melania Trump posts Valentine’s Day message, but makes no mention of her husband. Probably because she despises him as much as you do," Mike Sington tweeted.

"She didn't even mention her own husband in a Valentine's Day tweet," another commented.

"No Valentine's Day tribute to your darling husband?" another tweeted.

"You might as well wish Hank Siemers a happy Valentine's Day at this point. no mention of your husband, as usual...but I understand, he can't tweet anything to you....because he got kicked off twitter for inciting violence," another user wrote.

Others came to the former first lady's defense, with some pointing out that she may have greeted her husband a happy Valentine's Day in person.

"She sent her message to sick children from her account. Is it necessary for her to mention her husband?" one asked.

"Give it up, pathetic reporting. Jill Biden's Valentine's message made no mention of Joe either! @DailyMail is becoming gutter press," another wrote in response to Daily Mail's report on Trump's tweets.

"Not only does Pres Trump live in your head, so does the lovely Melania," a third user wrote.

Meanwhile, Trump recently slammed a report from CNN that claimed she was "disengaged" from her husband's second impeachment trial. It quoted anonymous sources claiming the former first lady had been visiting the spa at Mar-a-Lago frequently after leaving the White House and that she was "bitter" over the media attention Jill Biden has been getting.

However, Trump's newly established office questioned the reliability of CNN's sources and called the report "false gossip."

"Mrs. Trump is no longer First Lady. She is a private citizen, mother, & wife," the statement posted on Twitter read. "Sources in this article are not affiliated w her nor have insight into her thoughts or daily life. CNN’s FLOTUS Correspondent choosing to publish false gossip illustrates the media’s unhealthy obsession."
