Valerie Bertinelli Is 'So Much Happier' On New Year's Day: 'I'm Not Worried, I'm Free'

Valerie Bertinelli started the first day of 2023 by sharing a positive message on social media.

The "Taken Away" star uploaded a video of her smiling and twirling to Taylor Swift's "Clean" on Instagram. In the caption, she expressed her joy and optimism for the new year.

"This new year day is coming in so much happier than last year's," she wrote. "From a young age, New Year's Day has been one of my absolute favorite days, for the last 5-6 years, it's been one of the saddest. No more."

Bertinelli finalized her divorce from her ex-husband Tom Vitale in November. She couldn't hide her happiness when she announced that her marriage to Vitale was officially over two months ago.

"There is so much to look forward to now, when before it just looked endlessly sad, scary, lonely and stressful," she continued. "I have no idea what's ahead for me, and I'm not worried. I'm free. This new years day, 2023, is the first day of the rest of my life!"

The "Night Sins" star concluded her post by leaving a special message to her fans and followers on the social media platform.

"I wish all of you every bit of joy and happiness and kindness that you claim. It's all yours. Grab it! Happy New Year. Love you," she wrote.

In November, days before Thanksgiving, Bertinelli was at the airport when she received an update from her lawyer about her divorce. She was overjoyed when she learned that the papers were already signed.

"I'm at the airport. About to go see Wolfie. And my lawyer just called. The papers are all signed. They're about to be filed. On 11/22/22 I am officially f---ing divorced," she said in a video shared on Twitter.

"I am happily divorced. God, finally, it's finally over," she added before giggling, "Yes!"

The 62-year-old celebrity filed for divorce from her second husband in May after 11 years of marriage. Their relationship began in 2004, and they got married seven years later.

She filed for legal separation in November 2021, and she has been open about their tumultuous relationship following their breakup, even admitting that she had "trust issues" and couldn't imagine herself dating again.

"I can't imagine ever trusting anyone again to let into my life," she said about her future with dating on "Today." "So I have some trust issues that I'm sure I'm going to have to get past," she said.
