Setting up or renting a dedicated server is an amazing way to play "Valheim" with friends since it lets a group explore a world in an accessible way instead of relying on a single person to host the game. However, a lot of players have been reporting several server-related issues in the game, such as servers not showing up and getting disconnected. Some also experienced crashing and freezing issues, as well as other errors in the game. For players looking for ways on how to fix them, here are some tips and tricks to solving common "Valheim" issues.
Dedicated Servers Not Showing Up
One of the most heavily discussed topics in various gaming communities is the game's dedicated server not showing up. While some believe that a bug is causing this issue in "Valheim," there are those who claim that simply restarting the game can solve it. But if the problem persists, they can try opening the Steam client, choosing the View menu and selecting the Servers option.
A Steam server browser will then show up. It's where players should choose the favorites tab and press the add a server button. After that, they need to enter the IP address of the dedicated server not showing up with the port appended to the end after a colon. Players should find their dedicated server on the list, which they then need to select. Finally, they have to press connect and key in the password.
"Valheim" Crashing At Startup
To fix this issue, players need to whitelist "Valheim" from their anti-virus program and firewall. It is also important that players run the game as an administrator to add another layer of security. If this does not work, players can also check for pending Windows version updates, as well as their GPU drivers. They need to install the necessary updates to make sure the PC graphics are on par with the game.
Disconnected From A Dedicated Server
On Reddit, a user shared a workaround to solve the issue of getting disconnected from the dedicated server of "Valheim."
"We couldn't see my friend's dedicated server at internal port 2456 when we forwarded the ports. We realized that when we add the server to the steam server page that we needed to use 2457 at the end of the IP address. So, we thought instead of forwarding internal port 2456, we’ll instead try 2457. Once we restart the server script we could finally see the server," the user said.
Other players confirmed that this fix solved their issue.
"Valheim" Freezing
Usually, game freezing in a specific area means players need to verify the game's files. To do this, players need to right-click on the game's name and choose Properties. Next, they have to go to Local Files and Verify the game files' integrity. If the game still freezes after doing this process, players can whitelist the game on their anti-virus program and on their firewall. They can also uninstall the game then redownload and reinstall it.
