‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Spoilers: 7 Things We Learned From The New Promo Video
“The Vampire Diaries” returns to The CW in less than a week, but the network has been kind enough to treat fans to a brand new trailer to preview the remaining episodes in Season 6. Things didn’t end well when viewers last left off, but the promo video teases some happiness around the corner – especially for those rooting for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) to get back together. We’re breaking down the upcoming drama:
1. Meet Sarah Salvatore
Remember Sarah Salvatore? She popped up in Mystic Falls earlier this season but turned out to be a fraud named Monique (Gabrielle Walsh). Enzo (Michael Malarkey) ended up murdering the fake Sarah Salvatore, but the real one is still out there – and “Vampire Diaries” viewers will meet her in the midseason premiere, episode 11.
“Call me old fashioned, but I disapprove of secrets between brothers,” Enzo says to Stefan (Paul Wesley) in the new video. The enemies appear to be at an art gallery, which would make since Sarah Salvatore is a photography student in college.
“She’s Zach Salvatore’s (Chris William Martin) daughter which makes her my great niece,” Stefan responds. “That’s my big secret.”
But that doesn’t silence Enzo. Instead he asks an interesting question – “Then why are you so intent on keeping it?”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sarah Salvatore will be played by Tristin Mays of “The Wedding Ringer.” Sarah is described as a “bright and gifted” student, however her life will be “turned upside down as she unravels the mystery of her true family history.”
2. Kai And Elena’s Excellent Adventure
The midseason finale concluded with Kai (Chris Wood) casting a spell over Elena make her invisible to others. Since Jo (Jodi Lynn O’Keefe) and the others are plotting to kill him, Kai needed leverage – aka Elena.
It’s unclear what exactly Kai wants to do with Elena. But it doesn’t appear like Elena is going to enjoy her time with the psychotic killer. A clip shows her getting zapped by some pretty serious magic.
3. Family First?
“No one is killing Kai,” Jo warns Alaric (Matt Davis) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) in the trailer. Unfortunately that may be a hard direction for them to follow – especially since Elena’s being held hostage by Kai.
“Well, we’re not letting Kai kill Elena,” Jeremy fires back at her. But at least Jo has a good reason for wanting to keep her crazy twin alive. As “Vampire Diaries” viewers learned in the first half of the season, the Gemini Witch Coven needs a leader. Jo needs to defeat Kai or her brother will come into possession of some serious power. If Kai dies at someone else’s hands, then Liv (Penelope Mitchell) and Luke (Chris Brochu) will be forced to merge.
4. Steroline
Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan have been on the outs ever since the youngest Salvatore left town at the beginning of the season. The pair are slowly rebuilding their friendship, however the thing bringing them together is pretty devastating – Caroline’s mom, Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre), has a fast growing brain tumor.
“I need you to promise me something,” Sheriff Forbes says to Stefan. “When I’m gone Caroline is going to need you.”
5. Jeremy’s Goodbye
“Vampire Diaries” fans know it’s coming – at some point this season actor Steven R. McQueen is going to exit the show. Executive producer Julie Plec dished to the Hollywood Reporter that McQueen’s character, Jeremy, would be leaving town – not dying. And viewers appear to get their first look at his goodbye in the promo.
“Enzo almost killed you today,” Elena says to her brother. “You deserve a normal life, Jer.”
Alaric agrees, adding, “Time to get the hell out of here.”
Fingers crossed that Alaric is telling Jeremy to leave … and not skipping town with him.
6. The Delena Reunion We’ve All Been Waiting For
Wiped memories, an alternative universe, college boys and serial killers have kept Damon and Elena apart for most of Season 6. The pair appeared to finally be getting back together – underneath the mistletoe, no less – when Kai surprised Elena (and the viewers) with a poorly timed invisibility spell. Damon’s going to have to fight to get his girl back, but a clip from the promo seems to hint that he’ll be successful.
“I thought you wanted to start over,” Damon tells Elena as they place their hands on each other. “Because FYI this is exactly where we left off.”
“I don’t care,” Elena responds before they kiss. “Life’s too short.”
7. Bonnie …
The new “Vampire Diaries” promo is jam packed with exciting clips – but noticeably absent is everyone’s favorite witch, Bonnie (Kat Graham).
“The Vampire Diaries” returns to The CW on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 8 p.m. EST. What are you looking forward to seeing the most? Watch the trailer below and tweet your thoughts to @AmandaTVScoop.
