'Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Spoilers: Caroline And Stefan Romance Addressed In Episode 3; Will Steroline Finally Get Together?

“The Vampire Diaries” fans always have plenty of questions, but there is one question that’s been lingering for years now: Will Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) ever get together? Season 6 episode 3 finally addressed Caroline’s underlying feelings for Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) ex-boyfriend.

“You and Stefan ... Do you have feelings for him or something?” Elena asked.

“Yeah, I think maybe I did,” Caroline admitted.

She used the past tense, but it doesn’t seem like Caroline is over Stefan. She was seriously hurt when she discovered that he was just hiding out with a new girlfriend while avoiding her calls. Their friendship began in Season 2 of “The Vampire Diaries” when Stefan helped Caroline transition into a controlled vampire, and they have consistently relied on each other throughout the years. Caroline probably isn’t going to just get over being abandoned. She’s been crying about it for two episodes now, and she doesn’t cry about boys that she has gotten over.

In order for anything to happen, Stefan will have to stay in town. Stefan doesn’t seem to want to stick around the outskirts of Mystic Falls or have anything to do with the drama. He claims to just want to kill Enzo and leave, but if that were the case, wouldn't he have left town as soon as Tripp (Colin Ferguson) took Enzo (Michael Malarkey)? Stefan might be sticking around for Caroline, even if he is too busy brooding to admit it.

“I think there’s some chemistry [between Stefan and Caroline],” Wesley recently told Vulture. “And I think Stefan’s ready for a new love. But it will be a while. Right now, the gang’s dispersed, Stefan’s disconnected, and there’s a new guy who’s totally sociopathic in town. Stefan really doesn’t want to have anything to do with it. He’s kind of thrown his hands in the air and doesn’t care.”

Caroline probably won’t be welcoming him with open arms when she finds out that Stefan let Tripp take Enzo with plans to kill him. The murderous vampire might be a sociopath, but he was also Caroline’s friend while Stefan disappeared. Caroline is sure to be angry with Stefan—but he might not care if he is with Elena. It looks like the two will definitely be spending some time together in episode 4, and Elena might take his mind away from Caroline.
