‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Spoilers: Damon And Elena To Get 'Moment Of Happiness'

“The Vampire Diaries” might be shaking things up in the second half of Season 6. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) fans have come to expect one thing from the show: drama. The couple are always being forced apart and it’s usually pretty tragic – but that might change soon. Viewers might actually get to see Delena go through a “honeymoon period,” according to showrunner Julie Plec.

Somerhalder acknowledged that Damon and Elena have had a rough season. “It sucks,” the actor told TV Guide. “This guy went through all of this pain and strife and effort to amass this time with the woman he loves. And then it’s just lost.”

Despite their recent struggles, Plec emphasized that the couple will have some happiness in their future that fans have never seen. “There was an entire honeymoon period of their relationship that we did not play on camera,” Plec said. “We refer to it as ‘the summer of their lives,’ but it happened between season four and season five. As Damon and Elena are finding their way back to each other, in spite of all the obstacles that have been in their way, they've earned a moment of happiness.”

It seems that their “moment of happiness” might not be far off. Delena shippers know that happy times are ahead thanks to Plec, who teased a hookup earlier this month. “I can tell you that the hookup is … people who like rain will be very happy,” Plec told E! Online, referring to the “Delena rain kiss” scene from episode 7. However, fans didn’t realize how quickly the hookup would happen.

While Stefan and Caroline’s future together won’t be settled very soon, Damon and Elena will reportedly get back together within the next couple episodes. Elena will be turn to Damon for comfort after she learns how serious Caroline’s mom’s (Marguerite Macintyre) condition is, TV Guide reports. Unfortunately they still have one major obstacle to overcome: Kai (Chris Wood). The witch has Elena under his spell, so Damon can’t even see her. He’ll have to get save her before they can have their happy reunion.
